On Sunday 11th December, 35 boys and girls from Rang 3 – Rang 6 travelled to St. Patrick’s Church in Rochestown to sing at a fundraising concert in aid of Cork Penny Dinners.
The choir waited patiently, if a little nervously, for their names to be called and then took to the stage as if this was second nature. They stood proudly in their Scoil Ursula uniforms, along with winter hats and scarves, and took a deep breath in before singing the first notes of what was to become an outstanding performance.
The choir sang two songs: the first, “Child in a Manger Born”, a sweet and tranquil song reflecting the birth of Jesus; the second, “Merry Christmas Everyone!”, a joyful song describing all the wonderful traditions that we celebrate at Christmas time.
The choir sang with an accuracy, precision and determination that would rival some of the best choirs in the country. They marched on and off the altar with pure professionalism, and one would think that they had done this a hundred times before.
After two huge applause from the audience, the choir returned to their seats with beaming smiles and a feeling that something great had been achieved. The choir sang better than they ever have before and put on a thoroughly enjoyable performance.
Mrs. Keane, Miss McCarthy and all the other teachers are overwhelmingly proud of the school choir.
Well done everybody!
