Mams and Dads came to the classrooms for Art & Craft sessions, workstations based on “Piper” and to hear all about caring for dogs. It is so nice when the adults join the children in school.

Visits from DogsTrust, Dogs for the Disabled and Maxi Zoo took place. We are all so kind to dogs in Scoil Ursula and really know how to care for them.

All the classes showcased wonderful Art work and three children from every class were chosen as winners with Julia Poltorak from 6th Class taking the Overall Art prize.

Families worked together at home on designing posters . The theme was a lost dog. Many wonderful entries were submitted. The Hyde Family ( Ava 3rd Class ) and the O Donovan Family (Alisha 3rd Class) were Runners Up in this Family Competition with the Fanning Family (Alex 4th Class) taking top prize. Congratulations to all!

Scoil Ursula was represented in an Intergenerational Quiz by four boys from 5th & 6th Classes-Marty O Brien, Josh O Hare, Daniel Lynch and Sean Morrissey. The boys displayed an in depth knowledge of “Dog Lost” and did their school proud.

Many thanks go to all of the families and staff members who supported the old clothes collection which helps to fund the project. €743 was raised in November towards next year’s project.
A special thank you also to Lynda Lynch, Mum to Daniel (5th Class) who was our photographer at the Quiz and Prizegiving for all the local schools in Mahon Community Centre on Tuesday October 25th.

We can never underestimate the value of losing oneself in a good book so hopefully the children in Scoil Ursula will continue to enjoy reading for a long time.
Happy reading everyone!

Tuesdays 9-11.30 Starts in January

Ed is fantastic at telling stories!. Many children got to join Ed and Auntie Poppy at the top of the classroom and help Ed decide what rooms were in his house. The children were great at explaining to Ed what items you would find in each room. Ed loved talking about his house today!

Ed set the children a task of creating their own house and we all had great fun doing this. The children’s houses are hanging up outside their classroom for anyone to come and see. I’m sure they would only love to describe their house to anyone who comes along.

Junior Infants in Scoil Ursula are very lucky to have the wonderful people of Happy Talk working with us this year.
We are half way through our Happy Talk sessions for Term 1 and we are working hard on our language and communication skills.
Our mums, dads and helpers have been working on Modelling and Expanding with us. These are very important skills that will help improve the way we communicate.

We have been working extremely hard on our listening skills with the help of Nibbles. We are excellent at spotting when Nibbles is not showing us his listening skills.
Our listening skills are:
Eyes are looking.
Ears are listening.
Mouth is closed.
Hands are still.
Feet are on the floor.
We can practice these skills at home and in school.
Thank you to our adults and Niamh from Happy Talk for coming into our classroom every week!
