The Junior Infant pupils have been very busy settling in to big school this September.
We are very proud of all the boys and girls who have been working very hard.
We have been learning these colours and have been searching at home and in school for things to put on our colour table.

Miss McCarthy’s toys got all mixed up. We worked hard to sort them.
We also learned about length. We measured our books using teddy bears, built tall and short towers, and compared different lengths of ribbon.
We have been busy learning Irish this month with the help of our friends Seán agus Síofra. The boys and girls have practiced the following phrases:
Cé tusa? (What’s your name?) Is mise _______ ( My name is ____)
Dia duit (Hello) Dia is muire duit (Hello)
Slán (Goodbye) Slán go fóill (Bye for now)
Tá mé ar scoil (I am in school)
We have learned two colours – dearg (red) agus buí (yellow).
Look at all the words we have learned.
Senior Infants visited us and we sang our Irish songs for each other. Click the slideshow to see some photos.
We started hurling with Pat on Tuesday. We will do hurling for 6 weeks. We wore coloured bibs and helmets and learned how to hold a hurley. We did lots of fun drills and also played a match.
Watch this slideshow of our first hurling lesson.
We read the story The Kissing Hand on our first day in school. We made our own Kissing Hands.
We also drew self-portraits. We are amazing artists!
We were very excited to read the story The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark. Every boy and girl has their own book which they will get to take home.
In History, we looked at the topic of birthdays. We made a class birthday display, and examined lots of birthday artefacts. We also celebrated Chester the Racoon’s 6th birthday.
Our Aistear theme for the month of September is The Doctor’s Surgery. This links with our oral language theme of The Body.
At the moment, we have set up three stations. 1) The Role-Play Corner 2) Playdough Area 3)Small World/Construction Area
The children are listening to and using lots of new language.

Senior Infants were the healthiest class in the school for the month of February- we were very pleased and will continue to eat all our fruit and vegetables!
